ESP
Holds National Teleconference on Participation in Sports Industry (Tuesday,
September 19, 2006; Cleveland,
OH ) The
sports industry generates approximately $235 billion in revenue
each year. African Americans, who dominate at the player level of the 3 major
sports, earn approximately $4.6 billion collectively in salary
each year, meaning that the people on whose back the industry has been built receive
less than 1% of the revenue generated directly and indirectly from their efforts.
On Tuesday, September 19, 2006
in Cleveland, Ohio, George Fraser of FraserNet and Everett Glenn of ESP collaberated
to hold a national conference call to examine why African Americans, including
African American professionals, do not play a more significant role in the sports
industry. Participants in the conference call also strategized on ways to improve
the participation of African Americans, including African American professionals,
in the sports industry. Participants in the
conference call included African American professioinals from Alabama, California,
the District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi,
New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Texas and Virginia. One of the more
significant developments from the conference call was the establishment of the
FAIR Project, which stands for FraserNet Athlete Initiative for Reform (FAIR).
To learn more about the FAIR Project and/or
to join the effort, contact fair@frasernet.com.
a tape of the entire conference call. We apologize in advance for the number of
"beeps" you will hear during the beginning of the call. The beeps represent people
joining the call, and nearly 100 African American professionals joined the call.
