President Everett Glenn Interviewed on Willie Davis-Owned Station WMCS Milwaukee (Monday,
December 31, 2007. Milwaukee, WI)
ESP
President Everett Glenn was the featured guest on the December 31, 2007 installment
of The Eric Von Show on WMCS-1290, Milwaukee, WI. For an hour or so Everett and
Eric discussed current events in sports and took listener’s calls and discussed
the mission and vision of ESP’s FAIR initiative in partnership with George
Fraser and FraserNet to level the playing field for athletes of color in the $250
billion per year sports business industry. WMCS-1290, Milwaukee, is
one of four stations owned by All-Pro Broadcasting, Inc, the holding company owned
by former Green Bay Packer Willie Davis. A star defensive end at HBCU
Grambling State University, Willie was originally drafted by the Cleveland Browns.
After two seasons, the legendary Vince Lombardi lured him to the Green Bay Packers
and for 10 seasons Davis anchored the Packers' defensive line. Willie played 138
consecutive regular-season games, part of 162 consecutive regular-season games
for his NFL career, and was a member of all five of Lombardi's NFL title-winning
teams. Willie played in Super Bowls I and II and eventually earned induction into
the Green Bay Packers and NFL Hall of Fame. Shortly after his retirement,
Willie became the first African American to own a major beer distributorship when
he acquired a Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company distributorship in Los Angeles. In
1977, Willie purchased KACE-FM, an urban station in Los Angeles, which was housed
on the second floor of the beer distributorship. Bitten by the broadcasting bug,
Davis acquired Milwaukee stations WAWA-AM (1590 on the dial) and WAWA-FM (102.1)
in 1979. He split the two stations and gave the FM station new call letters -
WLUM "We Love U Milwaukee". In 1986, WAWA-AM moved down the dial to
1290 and WMVP was born. In 1996, WMVP's call letters were replaced by WMCS - "Milwaukee's
Community Station. In an interview with Urban Network magazine, Davis
said, "From the time I purchased the radio station to this day, my desire
was to have a station that was committed to the Milwaukee urban community where
we could focus on issues and concerns pertinent to the community."
Willie Davis, an athlete who continues to make a profit and make a difference.
A player who has done well and continues to do good. For 16
years, Eric Von has been one of Milwaukee’s leading voices on radio, TV
or print on Milwaukee’s socio-political scene. From national politics to
Milwaukee's "everyman," Von chops it up with all of them. “Satirical,
smart, funny, provocative, profound, edgy," is what people say about the
Eric Von Show. Click on the link Everett’s
