President Joins City of Long Beach in Welcoming the Breakers (Friday,
November 09, 2007. Long Beach, CA)
ESP
President Everett Glenn joined Shelly Smith of ESPN, MTV's "Downtown"
Julie Brown, Long Beach Harbor Commissioner Doris Topsy-Elvord,
and a host of City officials and dignitaries in welcoming the Long
Beach Breakers to the City. The reception was part of a Charity
Tip-Off Dinner for Miller Children's Hospital and the Outflow Foundation
at the Petroleum Club.
The Breakers, the newest entry into the ABA, are coached by 17 year
NBA veteran Olden Polynice. The charity event was hosted by former
MTV Diva, 'Downtown' Julie Brown and featured the JANE DOE HOUSE
which offers a welfare to work program to assist women with children
to assimilate into a working and productive society, by offering
a live-in rehabilitation home, computer training as well as a Workforce
Development Specialist from the City of Long Beach and the State
of California.
Miller Children's Hospital has been providing a complete range of
primary and specialty care for children of all ages, from newborns
to young adults, for more than 30 years. Miller's Children's Hospital
is home to one of the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)
in California, treating more high-risk infants daily than any other
hospital in Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties. In addition,
their Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides comprehensive
care for the most serious pediatric cases, many of which come through
their new pediatric Emergency Department - one of few in the area
that meets special criteria for providing pediatric emergency and
trauma care.
The Out Flow Foundation maintains a community-based network and
outreach program to assist families, children orphaned, infected
or affected by HIV/AIDS and with life threatening illnesses. The
foundation is dedicated to meeting the real needs of those in health
and economic crisis by offering housing, food, clothing, toys, and
toiletries to improve their quality of life.
"To those who have been given much, much is expected,"
says ESP President Everett Glenn, and the ESP team fully supports
the work of the Out Flow Foundation and the wonderful work done
each day by the doctors and staff and Miller Children's Hospital.
