ESP CEO/President Everett Glenn and former Chicago Bear and Oakland Raider Willie Gault joined Soul Train’s Don Cornelius, Motown’s Barry Gordy, Michael Jackson, Kenny Latimore, Brotherhood Crusade’s Danny Bakewell and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in celebrating the 66th birthday of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson. The birthday celebration was a part of the 10th Annual Rainbow Push Coalition and Citizenship Education Fund Awards Dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The RainbowPUSH Coalition is a progressive organization protecting, defending and expanding civil rights to improve economic and educational opportunity. The Citizenship Education Fund was established by the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., in 1984 to promulgate the democratic principles of civic virtue in order to improve life opportunities for those citizens who are often voiceless and forgotten. The Citizenship Education Fund seeks to empower citizens through the effective use of public policy advocacy, issue orientation, and connections between the greater community and the disenfranchised. The Fund also conducts research, collects data on non-partisan related initiatives, and organizes seminars and public awareness campaigns on a variety of public policy issues. The primary programmatic thrust of the Fund involves issues related to youth and youth development. To this end the Citizenship Education Fund has committed its staff and resources to THE NATIONAL RECLAIM OUR YOUTH CRUSADE.
